a quick training ride

(Ooh, I like that--when I casually (and unconsciously) refer to a 40-miler as a "quick ride"!)
I could have got out a lot earlier, but 3:15 just had to do; I thought I'd just do "the track" (the circuit formed by San Pablo Dam Road, Castro Ranch Road, Alhambra Valley Road, and Bear Creek Road; the trulyobsessive curious can see it here).
On the way there I caught up with a fast young woman on a Trek Kestrel (carbon-fiber, weighs about as much as a mouse). She was going the same way, so we rode in company for a while, but she was just too fast for me; I lost her completely about halfway around. Still, she was nice to talk to, nice to look at--so buff, with such beautiful bronzed skin--and such a pistol--when we started climbing the steep hill known as "Mama Bear" she said, "Now the fun starts!" The combination oflechery and competitiveness appreciating her beauty and wanting to at least keep her in sight helped me raise my average speed from about 13 mph to 14.6. My god, I think that's a personal best for that course! Thank you, dear, whoever you are, I hope I see you on the road again and keep up with you better, and here's to fast women everywhere.
