Went out electioneering against Prop 8 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., which pretty much exhausted me -- I am awed by some of my colleagues who were out there from 6:45 a.m. on and still walking and talking. Stationed in Berkeley, I encountered only a couple of Yes on 8 voters. Then home, cleaning up a few No on 8 signs along the way and stopping to listen to McCain's concession speech. [livejournal.com profile] sophieflapsndr had brought home curry, bless her heart, hot enough to bring tears to my eyes -- it wasn't just Obama's victory speech.

Proposition 8 looks to be winning (with 22%25% of the vote in), but it could still turn around; I'll go to bed in hope, and if we lose this one, we'll come back with our own amendment. What one majority does another can undo, under the cockamamie California constitution. Those bigoted sons of bitches had stupidity and fear on their side, but we've got time on ours.

ETA: My son was born the year the Berlin Wall was opened. Now he's watched the USA's first African American president-elect give his victory speech.

EATA: Racism isn't dead in this country, but it's on the ropes.
